Egyptian and Nigerian English join the Open ASR Leaderboard(huggingface.co)

Hugging Face has added Egyptian and Nigerian English accents to its Open ASR Leaderboard through a collaboration with Liva AI. The new private datasets aim to improve accent representation and evaluation trustworthiness. The leaderboard will now report results using Kachru's Three Circles framework for richer accent breakdowns.

Hugging Face released Phonon, a compact on-device text-to-speech model that runs locally without internet. Available in two sizes with Apache 2.0 and non-commercial licenses, it supports five languages and custom voices. Phonon tops the Open TTS Leaderboard in intelligibility for German and Spanish and leads CPU streaming speed benchmarks.
